Enhanced Commercial Solar Grant: Up to €325,200 Available Under New SEAI Support

Irish businesses and organisations considering commercial Solar PV can now access significantly enhanced support through the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG).

The enhanced support provides an effective 45% grant rate, with funding of up to €325,200 available for qualifying new Solar PV applications.

The support is available across a wide range of non-domestic sectors, including businesses, farms, schools, public sector bodies, community centres, and other non-profit organisations, subject to the applicable SEAI eligibility criteria.

For organisations considering Solar PV, this represents a significant opportunity to reassess the energy potential of their property.

What has changed?

The Non-Domestic Microgen Grant already provided support towards Solar PV installations for businesses and other non-domestic organisations.

The enhanced support temporarily increases the level of assistance available.

Under the current scheme:

  • Solar PV systems of up to 1,000kWp / 1MWp are supported.
  • Enhanced support is available at an effective rate of 45%.
  • The maximum grant offering is €325,200.
  • The support applies to qualifying new applications.
  • The relevant SEAI approval and Letter of Offer must be in place before works begin.

On completion of the works, the final grant paid will be the lower of the grant value shown on the application’s summary page or 45% of the final invoiced project cost.

This distinction is important when considering the potential level of support for an individual project.

Who can apply?

SEAI currently lists the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant as available to:

Businesses
The agricultural sector
Public sector bodies
Schools
Community centres and other non-profit organisations

Individual projects remain subject to SEAI’s eligibility and technical requirements.

How long is the enhanced support available?

The enhanced grant is being introduced as a temporary measure.

The enhanced support is available for qualifying new applications made from 6 October 2026, with the temporary enhanced grant window running from 7 October 2026 to 6 July 2027.

Existing grant applications will not automatically be increased to the enhanced grant level.

The enhanced grant level and application window are temporary. The dates, grant rates, maximum support, and eligibility criteria should be checked against the live SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant guidance immediately before publication.

Apply before starting your Solar PV installation.

This is one of the most important parts of the grant process.

The relevant SEAI Letter of Offer must be in place before installation works begin.

Businesses and organisations considering a commercial Solar PV project should therefore complete the appropriate SEAI application process and receive approval before starting installation.

Customers should not assume that grant approval can be obtained retrospectively after works have commenced.

What could commercial Solar PV do for your organisation?

Grant support is only one part of the decision.

A commercial Solar PV system should be designed around the organisation’s property, electricity consumption, and operating profile.

A business using significant amounts of electricity during daylight hours, for example, may have the opportunity to use a large proportion of the electricity generated by its Solar PV system directly on site.

That’s why EnergyServ looks at the wider energy picture rather than simply recommending a particular number of panels.

Factors including roof or ground space, orientation, electricity consumption, operating hours, and future energy requirements can all influence the appropriate solution.

Start by understanding your energy use

For businesses that aren’t yet sure what their strongest energy opportunities are, an Energy Audit can be a useful starting point.

EnergyServ is an SEAI-listed Energy Auditing Company with an in-house Registered Energy Auditor.

Eligible organisations can currently receive a €2,000 SEAI voucher towards the cost of a professional Energy Audit.

From 11 October 2026, eligibility for SEAI’s Support Scheme for Energy Audits (SSEA) is expanding to public and private enterprises consuming less than 2.8 GWh (10 TJ) of energy annually from all sources, subject to the remaining scheme criteria.

An audit can help identify where energy is being used, where improvements could be made and whether an investment such as Solar PV may be appropriate.

What if your business doesn’t want to fund Solar PV upfront?

For suitable larger energy users, a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) may provide another route to delivering a commercial Solar PV project.

Rather than assuming one funding route is right for every organisation, EnergyServ can assess the property, energy consumption and project requirements and explore the options that may be appropriate.

That could include direct investment supported by the SEAI grant or, for suitable projects, alternative funding structures such as a PPA.

Considering commercial Solar PV?

The enhanced SEAI support creates a significant opportunity for businesses and organisations considering Solar PV.

But the starting point should still be understanding the property and the organisation’s energy requirements.

EnergyServ can assess your site, review your electricity requirements, and help determine what type and scale of Solar PV system may be appropriate.

Where relevant, we can also discuss Energy Audit and PPA options as part of the wider energy strategy.
