The SEAI Solar PV grant is a government-backed scheme that reduces the upfront cost of installing solar panels on your home. It is administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) under the Better Energy Homes programme and is available to owner-occupiers of properties built and occupied before 2021.
The grant is paid directly to your installer after the work is complete. You do not need to deal with SEAI yourself – your registered installer handles the application on your behalf. EnergyServ manages the entire process from survey to sign-off.
The grant amount is calculated by system size. The more capacity you install, the higher the grant – up to a maximum of €1,800 for a 4kWp system.

No. The grant is for new installations only. If you already have solar panels installed, you are not eligible to claim the Solar PV grant for an additional system.
Generally no. Residential solar panel installations under 12 sqm on a pitched roof are exempt from planning permission. Larger systems, flat roofs, or protected structures may require permission – check with your local authority if in doubt. EnergyServ will advise as part of your free survey.
Typically 4 to 8 weeks after installation is complete. EnergyServ submits the application on your behalf and manages the process from start to finish – you do not need to contact SEAI directly.
No. The Solar PV grant is available to owner-occupiers only. Landlords and rental properties are not eligible under this scheme.
