For eligible SMEs, the audit is free: the SEAI Support Scheme for Energy Audits (SSEA) provides a €2,000 voucher that covers the full cost in most cases. The audit follows a three-stage process covering preparation, site visit, and reporting, and typically identifies savings of 10 to 30% of a business’s annual energy spend.

For eligible SMEs, yes. The SEAI Support Scheme for Energy Audits (SSEA) provides a €2,000 voucher that covers the full cost in most cases. Approval is automatic for eligible businesses. EnergyServ manages the application on your behalf. To qualify, your business must spend at least €10,000 per year on energy at the site being audited, have fewer than 250 employees, and be ROI-registered and tax-compliant.
For most single-site SME premises, the site visit takes between half a day and one full day. The full process, from initial data review to delivery of the final written report, typically takes two to three weeks. Larger or more complex sites may take longer. EnergyServ agrees a timeline with you before starting.
No. EnergyServ’s auditors work around your normal operating hours. Most inspections require only short, pre-agreed access to plant rooms, meter cupboards, and roof areas. Any measurements that require temporary equipment access are scheduled outside your peak hours and agreed in advance.
The audit covers all significant energy users at your premises: lighting, HVAC, hot water, building fabric, compressed air where applicable, process and production equipment, and metering. The auditor also reviews your electricity tariff and identifies whether solar PV, battery storage, or a dynamic tariff would reduce your costs further.
The report sets out your energy baseline, identifies all significant energy waste, and provides a prioritised action plan. Actions are grouped by cost: no-cost changes you can act on immediately, low-cost upgrades with short paybacks, and capital investments with full payback estimates. EnergyServ uses the report to recommend next steps tailored to your business.
The audit establishes your actual electricity consumption profile, which is the starting point for correctly sizing a commercial solar PV system. Without it, you risk installing a system that is too small to maximise savings or too large to achieve a good payback. EnergyServ uses the audit findings to design your solar system and to support your SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant application, which can be worth up to €162,600.
Yes. Large enterprises are not eligible for the SEAI SSEA voucher, but they are required to complete a mandatory audit under SI 426 every four years. The next SI 426 deadline is 2027.
