Luxury tourism, powered by renewable energy.
Located in the peaceful surroundings of the Blackstairs Mountains, Blackstairs Glamping was created to offer guests a luxury escape immersed in nature while embracing sustainable living.
Developed on the owner’s family farm, the project was designed to diversify the family business while creating a peaceful retreat where visitors can relax, reconnect with nature and enjoy modern comforts with minimal environmental impact.
From the outset, renewable energy formed an important part of the vision. EnergyServ designed and installed a ground-mounted solar PV system that now powers the glamping site, helping reduce operating costs while supporting three luxury accommodation pods, three hot tubs and an EV charging point.
The installation demonstrates how renewable energy can become an integral part of modern tourism, allowing businesses to grow sustainably while providing an exceptional guest experience without compromising on luxury.

“Yes, definitely include solar from the beginning. Producing your own electricity reinforces that decision every day.” — Nicky Carr, Blackstairs Glamping

Blackstairs Glamping was created to provide guests with:
Renewable energy was included from the very beginning because it aligned perfectly with the business vision. Benefits include:
The owner estimates a payback period of approximately 3–4 years.
The EnergyServ solar system helps power:
Typical site demand ranges between 70–80 kWh per day, with the hot tubs representing one of the largest energy requirements. The monitoring app allows the owners to track generation and maximise the use of renewable electricity throughout the days.
After a disappointing experience with another solar company, the owners wanted a supplier they could trust. They chose EnergyServ because:
When asked about the installation, Nicky described the experience simply: “No issues. Everything went well.”
The solar installation has become a key part of the long-term strategy for Blackstairs Glamping, helping the business manage rising energy costs while strengthening its environmental credentials. For tourism businesses considering renewable energy, Nicky’s advice is simple: “Yes, definitely. Include solar from the beginning.”
The EnergyServ monitoring platform gives the owners complete visibility of energy generation, consumption and electricity exported to the grid, helping them maximise the value of every sunny day.

We spoke with several providers, but the professionalism and quality of EnergyServ’s work stood out immediately. Their installation was seamless, and the results have been even better than expected. Our energy bills are now dramatically lower, and we feel confident we made the right choice.
